What To Expect
-
Booking & Consultation
Call or Email to Book
Prior to your first session your Bowen Therapist will contact you about your health history, any specific concerns you might have, and your overall well-being. This is important because it helps the therapist tailor the treatment to your needs. -
During a Bowen Treatment
The Treatment Environment
The session takes place in a comfortable, quiet room on a treatment table, the treatment is typically 45 - 60 minutes done on skin.Gentle Moves
Bowen Therapy is performed using a series of small, precise movements. The therapist will use their fingers and thumbs to gently roll over specific points on your body, applying light pressure. These moves are mostly subtle and stimulate the muscles, fascia (connective tissue), and nervous system.Sensation of Healing
Tingling, warmth or sense of energy may occur. Some people experience muscle twitching or shaking as tension is released. These sensations are often temporary and can indicate that your body is responding to Bowen. Your therapist will often pause for a short period (around 1-2 minutes) as your body begins to adjust to the release of fascia releasing tension in your body and for the energy to circulate. These pauses are just as important as the movements themselves. No Pain, Just Relaxation
Expect to feel deep relaxation, most people will sleep throughout their session. -
After Care
After the Treatment
Your therapist may provide guidance on how to care for your body, like drinking plenty of water, walking at regular intervals, or avoiding strenuous activities. Some people experience a sense of relief and relaxation immediately after the treatment, while for others, the benefits may become more noticeable over the following days. Trust your body is adapting and allowing Bowen Technique to take hold.Allow 5-7 days rest between each Bowen session and allow Bowen to integrate.
Avoid excessive exercise and other modalities that may undo the subtle Bowen Technique and it’s effectiveness
Follow-Up Sessions
Bowen Therapy is often most effective with a series of treatments. The therapist will recommend a plan based on your individual needs and response to the therapy. Depending on your condition, follow-up sessions are typically spaced a few days to a week apart, and the therapist will monitor your progress.
